Odds Maker: is this keyword worth an article?
Odds Maker is a skill for Claude that decides whether a keyword or an article idea is worth writing. Instead of trusting a vendor difficulty score, it reads the real first page of results, notes who ranks and how current they are, and returns one verdict per query, with URLs and dates.
One of the 14 skills in the pack
Ask it in your own words
- "Is this keyword too hard for a four-month-old site?"
- "I have 40 article ideas. Which do I publish first?"
- "How do I do keyword research without Ahrefs or Semrush?"
- "that app came out 3 days ago, do i write about it now or wait"
What happens next
- It reads the real page one. Claude searches your query in a few phrasings and lists who ranks, with the tool, region and date.
- It opens the top results. For each: the kind of site, its date, the version it covers, whether it answers the question.
- It checks demand and overlap. Signs that people ask this (autocomplete, forum threads), and a comparison with the pages you already have.
- It scores, then decides. A score out of 100, gates that can override it, one verdict and the angle to take.
What you get back
- One verdict per query: write, write with a different angle, add to an existing page, skip or revisit
- A table of page one: each result with its type, its date and one piece of evidence
- A score out of 100, and the judgement calls that could move it
- For a list of ideas, a table sorted by priority
Run on this very site
Twelve queries about Claude and SEO, read on the results a web search returned (one country, engine unknown).
Search volume is not measurable here; no figure below is a volume.
"claude skills for seo" -> ADD TO AN EXISTING PAGE (the home). Score 62/100 on sample A, 57 on sample B. PROVISIONAL
"best claude skills for seo" -> WRITE WITH A DIFFERENT ANGLE (angle unvalidated). Score 60. PROVISIONAL
"best claude skills" -> SKIP (quick pass, not scored)The home page title now carries the first phrase. No page was written for the queries it said to skip.
What it will not do
- It cannot give search volumes or backlink counts: it has no such data. It works from observed signals, and from your Search Console impressions if you paste them.
- It reads one sample (one tool, one region, one day), and a winnable page one is a necessary condition, not a promise that you will rank.
- It will not suggest doorway pages, bought links or fake reviews to make up for missing authority: the honest route is a better query and real mentions.
What it needs
Claude Code or the Claude apps, with a web search tool and nothing paid: without one, you paste the first ten results from a private window. Its scripts (Python 3.9 or later) are optional. Give your list of URLs, or the verdict stays provisional.

Questions about this skill
Do I need Ahrefs or Semrush?
No. A web search tool is enough. Search volume stays unknown without a paid tool or your Search Console, and the skill says so.
How long does one keyword take?
About 20 to 25 tool calls at standard depth, 3 to 6 for a quick check.
